STFC in a Diverse World
This talk is part of a series of inspirational leadership talks arranged and hosted by members of the STFC Accelerated Development Programme. The panel discussion focused on how the Science Technology and Facilities Council (STFC) operates in a diverse world which included guest speaker, Mark Easton, Home Editor at BBC News, who reflected on his personal experience as a senior journalist on how important it is to make news accessible to everyone, including hard to reach audiences, in order to stay relevant in today’s highly crowded media landscape. Dan Hillier, Head of STFC Public Engagement spoke about STFC Public Wonder initiative that seeks to engage audiences from some of the UK’s poorest neighbourhoods in science promotion and education, and Space Engineer, Mamatha Maheshwarappa provided her perspective on changing attitudes to diversity and her personal experiences as a woman entering a career in science. The webinar concluded with a Q&A and discussion when the panel were joined by Jo Lawton, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at UKRI.
